Sonia has worked with banks, financial institutions and corporations since she began her Articles with the Firm in 1996. She leads the Recoveries Team.

Sonia practises in the areas of banking and finance dispute prevention and resolution and insolvency. She has acted for clients in matters in all jurisdictions including the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal. She has developed her experience in enforcement of securities including real property mortgages, guarantees and loan agreements; unsecured recoveries; liquidations; AFCA complaints; Banking Code of Practice; debt collection guidelines; deeds of forbearance; life tenancy and covenants not to sue; bankruptcy; mediation; National Credit Code; power of sale legislation including dealing with surplus sale proceeds; and VCAT Applications.

Specific assignments

• Acting for banks in debt disputes, misleading and deceptive conduct litigation, fraud, guarantee cases and documentation disputes.
• Providing advice in relation to structuring new deals, managing problem files and sensitive issues.
• Assisting various clients in developing protocols and precedents.
