Scott specialises in public sector advice, litigation, insolvency, and debt recovery. He has particular experience in complex litigation. Scott acts for Federal and State Governments, banks, financial institutions, receivers and other insolvency practitioners, on matters including proceedings for the imposition of pecuniary penalties and disqualification orders, the enforcement of securities, the management and sale of assets in insolvency. He regularly handles complex litigious matters for financial institutions and government, including for example for ASIC related to the breach of the Credit Act, breach of director’s duties and the winding up of managed investment schemes. He is particularly engaged in matters involving investigations and regulatory oversight. Scott has also represented clients in Commissions of Inquiry and Senate Committee Inquiries.

Scott has extensive experience representing insolvency practitioners on general insolvency matters and has provided general litigation services to both Federal and State Government Departments, as well as commercial enterprises, often involving regulatory compliance and enforcement actions. He has conducted multiple Federal Court proceedings for a variety of clients including seeking pecuniary penalties and disqualification orders.

Additionally, Scott has advised the Court-Appointed Receivers of several large, complex managed investment schemes. These matters have involved the management and sale of significant assets such as development land, healthcare and retirement villages, resorts, golf course and marina developments, and addressing disputes with responsible entities, borrowers, and associated funds. This includes providing counsel on priority disputes, recovery actions, and other issues subject to regulatory oversight.

Scott is also well-regarded for his expertise in advising financiers on all banking related matters, including matters related to the rural industry, particularly in Farm Debt Mediation, as well as other key areas of financial regulation and enforcement.
