Russell is a Special Counsel in the Property and Construction Group and assists in leading the Construction team. Russell has over 27 years of experience in acting for and advising government, developers, contractors and consultants on a broad range of domestic and commercial construction projects. Russell has particular expertise in back-end construction litigation.
For over 27 years, Russell has acted both for and against the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC), and its predecessors and has extensive knowledge in a diverse range of areas including review proceedings in which the QBCC is involved. Russell also acts for individual builders, contractors, owners, and other members of the building community in contractual or other disputes (including security for payment disputes), with equal enthusiasm.
Whoever the client, Russell applies his unique expertise in providing practical, tactical legal advice in relation to construction disputes, and their resolution.
In addition to his law degree, Russell holds a Masters of Law degree and has studied at Masters level in dispute resolution. Using his extensive knowledge and experience, Russell has a strong track record of achieving positive outcomes through dispute resolution.
Russell also has a strong affiliation and history with the QMBA for whom he provides advice, and education and assistance to its members.
Russell is a committee member of the Building Dispute Practitioners’ Society (Queensland Chapter) which is a non-profit organisation. Through his active committee membership Russell has been able to contribute to the education of the broader construction dispute community by facilitating and organising discussion evenings and other events.
