Matthew is an experienced lawyer with 30 years spent both in-house and with major law firms in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, London, the Cayman Islands and Hong Kong. Matthew has a diverse range of legal, commercial, and senior management skills.
Specialising in financial services regulation, Matthew also advises on a range of general commercial, corporate, property, and banking and finance matters including Australian Credit Licenses (ACL) and Australian Financial Service Licenses (AFSL) applications, ASIC investigations, advising major Australian banks on numerous corporate and property financings (including shopping centres, hotels and development sites) as well as on M&A transactions and corporate finance transactions.
Matthew advises both national and international clients across an array of industries including property, finance, mining and resources, media, shipping, aviation, and agricultural.
Matthew was previously a Banking & Finance Partner at Gadens before taking up a number of in-house roles, including as Senior Legal Counsel with AMP Capital where he was lead legal advisor on significant international fund management and investment transactions in Cayman, Delaware and New York, the sale of AMP Capital’s shopping centre portfolio to GPT, and advised on the debt restructure as part of the sale of fund management portfolios in Australia to Dexus, and in the UK to DigitalBridge.
