Derek is a partner of Lavan, an independent law firm in Perth operating in association with Gadens.

Derek has 30 years’ experience working in corporate and commercial law. His breadth of experience includes mergers and acquisitions, capital raisings, private equity, ASX listings, asset sales and purchase, due diligence and corporate governance.

Derek is also an experienced company director and is currently chairman of ASX listed companies Sandfire Resources NL, Threat Protect Australia Limited and Veris Limited and deputy chairman of BNK Banking Corporation Ltd. Derek is also on the national board of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a member of its WA Council.

As a partner in the Corporate Services team, Derek provides strategic-legal advice to Lavan’s corporate clients and is a client relationship partner to a number of key clients.

Derek’s extensive combined experience as a corporate lawyer and company director makes him an invaluable source of advice for Lavan’s clients.

Derek brings a strong corporate perspective to balancing our clients’ commercial and legal risk management needs.

He has worked on some of the State’s more notable capital market and private equity transactions including the Initial Public Offering (IPO) and ASX listing of Automotive Holdings Group, Navitas Ltd and Southern Cross Electrical Ltd among others. He has also been directly involved in the private equity investment transactions and subsequent IPOs of NRW Holdings
